The number one reason clients reschedule is timing: either they shaved too recently, or they let it grow too long. Let's make sure that doesn't happen to you.
The Short Answer: ¼ Inch
You need at least a quarter inch of hair growth for wax to grip effectively. That's roughly the length of a grain of rice — or about two to three weeks of growth after shaving.
If you're coming in for a Brazilian wax and you've been waxing consistently, your hair may already be at the right length right when it becomes visible. Returning wax clients typically have a natural sense for when they're ready.
Why Length Matters
Wax works by adhering to the hair shaft. Too short, and the wax can't get enough purchase to pull from the root — it either breaks the hair at the surface (same result as shaving) or doesn't grip at all. Too long, and the wax becomes harder to apply cleanly and the removal can be more uncomfortable.
The sweet spot — that quarter inch — gives the wax something to hold without creating unnecessary resistance.
What If It's Too Short?
If you shaved recently and your appointment is coming up, don't panic. Count the days:
- Less than 1 week post-shave: Too short — reschedule or wait
- 1–2 weeks post-shave: Might be borderline — your esthetician can assess
- 2–3 weeks post-shave: Usually good to go
When in doubt, let it grow a couple more days. You can always call us and describe your length — we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth coming in.
What If It's Too Long?
If your hair is significantly longer than a quarter inch, that's fine — we can trim it before waxing. Just come in as planned. Don't shave to "reset" it — that starts the clock over and adds another two to three weeks of waiting.
Ready to Book?
Once you're at that quarter inch, don't wait much longer — longer hair doesn't improve the experience. Book your appointment online and we'll take care of the rest.
