What to Expect on Your First Visit

Walking into your first wax appointment takes courage. Here is exactly what happens — step by step — so there are no surprises.

1

Before You Arrive

Skip the razor for 2–3 weeks so hair is at least ¼ inch long. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Take ibuprofen 30–45 minutes before if you're nervous about sensitivity. That's it — we handle everything else.

2

When You Walk In

You'll be greeted by name and shown to a clean, private room. No waiting in a crowded lobby. We'll walk you through what's happening before we touch anything, so you always know what to expect next.

3

During Your Service

Our honey-based hard wax grips the hair, not the skin — it's gentler than strip wax, especially for sensitive skin. Your esthetician narrates every step. If you ever want to pause or stop, just say so. No judgment, ever.

4

After You Leave

You'll leave with a complimentary aftercare kit and a simple care card with day-by-day instructions. Most clients want to book their next appointment before they reach the car — results last 3–5 weeks.

How to Prepare

A little preparation goes a long way for your comfort and results. Here is everything to do — and not do — before you arrive.

1

Let it grow for 2–3 weeks

Hair needs to be at least ¼ inch long (about the size of a grain of rice) for the wax to grip it. If you've been shaving, put the razor away now.

2

Exfoliate gently 24 hours before

A light exfoliation the day before helps hair release more cleanly and reduces the chance of ingrown hairs. Avoid anything harsh or abrasive — gentle is plenty.

3

Wear loose, comfortable clothing

Form-fitting waistbands and tight underwear can irritate freshly waxed skin. Loose cotton is your best friend on appointment day.

4

Take ibuprofen 30–45 minutes before

If you're nervous about sensitivity, an over-the-counter pain reliever before your appointment can help take the edge off. Totally optional — most clients skip it entirely.

5

Skip caffeine and alcohol beforehand

Both can make skin more sensitive. If you're already nervous, a coffee beforehand can amplify that feeling. Save the celebratory drink for after.

6

No need to trim — we handle that

You don't need to do any pre-trimming. If your hair is too long, your esthetician will take care of it before the wax goes on. Just come in as you are.

First-Timer Questions

The questions we hear most from first-timers — answered honestly, without the fluff.

What happens at my first appointment?
When you arrive, Maya will walk you through exactly what to expect before anything starts — no surprises, no rushing. She'll ask about your skin type, any sensitivities, and your waxing goals, then talk you through each step as you go. Most first-timers leave wondering why they waited so long.
How long does a wax take?
It depends on the service, but most appointments are faster than you'd expect. An eyebrow wax takes about 15 minutes; a Brazilian is typically 30–45 minutes for a first visit. Once your hair gets on a regular schedule, sessions get even quicker.
What if I'm really nervous?
That's completely normal — most clients feel some nerves before their first time. Maya takes first-timers seriously and will slow down, explain what she's doing, and check in with you throughout. You're always in control, and you can pause or stop at any point.
Will it hurt?
Honestly? You'll feel a quick snap, but it's over in a second. Most clients describe it as much less painful than they imagined, especially with our honey-based hard wax, which grips the hair instead of the skin. Deep breathing and a good esthetician make a huge difference.
Which services hurt the most?
Brazilian and bikini waxes tend to feel the most intense because the skin there is thinner and more sensitive. Face waxing (especially upper lip) can feel sharp for a moment. Leg and arm waxing is generally the most comfortable. Whatever service you're nervous about, Maya can walk you through what to expect.
Does it get less painful over time?
Yes — noticeably. After a few regular appointments, the hair follicles weaken and the hair comes in finer and sparser, which means less resistance when it's removed. Most regular clients say waxing becomes almost a non-event after 3–4 sessions.
How long should my hair be?
About a quarter inch — roughly the length of a grain of rice. If your hair is too short, the wax can't grip it properly and you'll end up with patchy results. If you've been shaving, you'll want to let it grow for at least 2–3 weeks before your first wax.
What should I do before my appointment?
Exfoliate gently 24–48 hours beforehand to help the hair release more cleanly. Avoid tanning, sunburns, or retinol products for at least 24 hours before your visit. Come in clean and moisturized but skip any heavy lotions or oils on the day of your appointment — they can interfere with the wax.
