Honey & Bloom — FAQ and waxing information

First-Timer Questions

Never been waxed before? You're in the right place. Here's everything you need to know before your first appointment.

What happens at my first appointment?
When you arrive, Maya will walk you through exactly what to expect before anything starts — no surprises, no rushing. She'll ask about your skin type, any sensitivities, and your waxing goals, then talk you through each step as you go. Most first-timers leave wondering why they waited so long.
How long does a wax take?
It depends on the service, but most appointments are faster than you'd expect. An eyebrow wax takes about 15 minutes; a Brazilian is typically 30–45 minutes for a first visit. Once your hair gets on a regular schedule, sessions get even quicker.
What if I'm really nervous?
That's completely normal — most clients feel some nerves before their first time. Maya takes first-timers seriously and will slow down, explain what she's doing, and check in with you throughout. You're always in control, and you can pause or stop at any point.

Pain & Comfort

Yes, waxing involves a quick sting — but it's usually far less than people expect. Here's the honest truth about what it feels like.

Will it hurt?
Honestly? You'll feel a quick snap, but it's over in a second. Most clients describe it as much less painful than they imagined, especially with our honey-based hard wax, which grips the hair instead of the skin. Deep breathing and a good esthetician make a huge difference.
Which services hurt the most?
Brazilian and bikini waxes tend to feel the most intense because the skin there is thinner and more sensitive. Face waxing (especially upper lip) can feel sharp for a moment. Leg and arm waxing is generally the most comfortable. Whatever service you're nervous about, Maya can walk you through what to expect.
Does it get less painful over time?
Yes — noticeably. After a few regular appointments, the hair follicles weaken and the hair comes in finer and sparser, which means less resistance when it's removed. Most regular clients say waxing becomes almost a non-event after 3–4 sessions.

How to Prepare

A little prep goes a long way for your comfort and results. Here's what to do (and skip) before you come in.

How long should my hair be?
About a quarter inch — roughly the length of a grain of rice. If your hair is too short, the wax can't grip it properly and you'll end up with patchy results. If you've been shaving, you'll want to let it grow for at least 2–3 weeks before your first wax.
What should I do before my appointment?
Exfoliate gently 24–48 hours beforehand to help the hair release more cleanly. Avoid tanning, sunburns, or retinol products for at least 24 hours before your visit. Come in clean and moisturized but skip any heavy lotions or oils on the day of your appointment — they can interfere with the wax.

Privacy & Comfort

Every service happens in a fully private room. Here's exactly what to expect so nothing catches you off guard.

Do I have to undress completely?
Only what's necessary for your specific service. For a Brazilian or bikini wax, you'll remove your bottoms, but you're always draped with a sheet or towel — nothing is exposed that doesn't need to be. You'll never feel over-exposed or uncomfortable.
Is the room private?
Completely. All services are done in a private room just for you and Maya. The door stays closed, and nobody else comes in or out during your appointment. The studio is designed to feel calm and intimate — more like a personal skincare session than a busy salon.

Hygiene & Safety

Your skin's safety is non-negotiable. Here's how we keep every appointment clean and professional.

Do you reuse wax?
Never. We use fresh wax for every client, every time — no double-dipping, no shared wax pots. Each service uses a clean applicator stick, and any wax that's been used is discarded immediately. Your skin only comes into contact with clean, untouched product.
How do you sanitize between clients?
The treatment table is fully disinfected between every single appointment, and all linens are changed. Maya uses a fresh pair of gloves for each client. Our studio follows professional esthetician sanitation standards, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Aftercare

What you do after your wax matters just as much as the wax itself. These tips will keep your skin smooth and happy.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs?
Exfoliate gently 2–3 times a week starting about 3 days after your wax — this keeps dead skin cells from trapping the new hair as it grows back. A light, fragrance-free moisturizer also helps. Avoid tight clothing and excessive sweating for 24 hours after your appointment.
How long do results last?
Most clients enjoy smooth skin for 3–6 weeks, depending on your natural hair growth cycle. The more consistent you are with regular waxing appointments, the longer the results tend to last — and the finer the regrowth becomes over time.

Sensitive Skin

Reactive skin is welcome here. Our honey-based hard wax is formulated specifically for clients who've had trouble elsewhere.

I have sensitive skin — can I still get waxed?
Yes, and you're in the right place. Our honey-based hard wax is specifically formulated for sensitive skin — it adheres to the hair rather than pulling on the skin, which significantly reduces redness and irritation. Just let Maya know about your skin concerns when you arrive so she can adjust her approach.
What's in your wax formula?
We use a natural honey-based hard wax that's free of artificial fragrances, parabens, and harsh resins. The honey base is naturally soothing and anti-inflammatory, making it gentler on reactive skin than traditional strip wax. It's our formula of choice for sensitive areas and clients who've had irritation with other studios.
